About

Hello,

my name is Sham Jaff and I am the author of this blog.

I am of Kurdish descent and hold a Master’s degree in Middle Eastern Economy Studies. As a blogger and a freelance journalist I write about contemporary politics and culture in the Middle East a lot – particularly in Kurdistan.
My work has been published on Rudaw, Your Middle East, MideastYouth, Orient and publications of the German Near and Middle East Association. Here and there, I invite contributors to share personal interesting opinions on trending topics in the Middle East and elsewhere.

In my other category, books, I like to suggest and review books that I  found interesting to you.

Have fun reading,

Sincerely yours,

Sham

  1. Great list. Good fun. I’m a longtime student of existential thought. I’m currently writing an adaptation of The Fall for the stage. It’s perfect for a one-person play. All the best to you.

  2. Hi, great to meet you. I loved your list of reading for 2013. I lived in Bavaria many years ago (in Hindelang) and read a lot of German authors then, but since then I’m out of touch with the best German writing. On my reading list, though, is Jakob Arjani, who recently died. I’m looking forward to trying him. Good luck with all your aims for 2013 – I hope it’s a successful year

  3. Wow, you have a lot of ambitious goals. Mine are similar, but not nearly as focused as yours. Thanks for visiting my blog and giving me a like. I think the title of your blog doesn’t do you justice. It does not seem absurd at all!!! Have a great day. Hope you’ll be back.

  4. Well I hope for you that you’ll find enough time to read those book the way you want it! I wish I had more time to read at all, but time is something I lack more and more..

  7. Good that you found my blog, or I found yours, or whatever. My good friends here are from Augsberg and Munich…very familiar with southern Germans and their ways. Look forward to going through your blog, and hope you find something worth while on mine. If you’re into photography at all my wife has our photography blog, since I am too shaky and dull to be an interesting photog. Cheers !

  13. Thanks for stopping by my blog and reading about my latest book review. I am so glad you came along because I am blown away by what you do and how well you do it. English as a third language! You are my language hero – really, I only speak one – like many Americans. Knowing other languages is a door opener in so many ways. It not only helps one another to understand the basics of what is being said, but there is so much culture entwined in every language – spoken and in body language. My hat’s off to you. Looking forward to following your dynamic blog and hope you come by and visit my little blog about English literature, writing, and authors. – Ilene Fey
